I hope this is OK with you Seedy. I gave you the credit for posting it over here. : First off: Playboy...would you post the specific on the races? Give the details about traction control, passengers and the demands of each racer. This stuff was between the racers and the man who brought this all together, Playboy.
: Anyway, I can't believe everyone has kept quite this long...lol! Let me first just say that I'm pretty impartial here. I'm a Z whore but I think Supras are awesome cars as well. Both guys were very cool about this and everyone had a great time...despite how weird a grouping of people it ended up being. So I'm going to tell it as I saw it. : The night began with Spongerider and I strolling in around 11pm. A few of the Z nuts were already there waiting but there was no Jack and no Playboy. We hung out for about 30 minutes and some more Z people cruised in. I think it was about 11:35 and Jack showed up! Must have been weird pulling in and seeing this group of people waiting for him anxiously. Along with him came infinite loop and their friend with the R33 (forgot his name, my bad!). Everyone milled about chatting about the cars, the forum, you crazy bastards that were up all night waiting on results, etc. All in all, people were in a great mood and laughing it up. : So we go through the race specifics and determine who has what jobs. Greg Dupree inspects both cars for NOS and other things deemed "illegal" in this race. Both cars are taken for test drives and boost is verified. Jack will be running with stock tires and Steve with his drag radials. Jack had a passenger on at least one run (not sure on the rest) operating the TTC to help with the launching. We hopped in the cars and headed out to the spot. : The track was a mile long stretch of Sepulveda Blvd. in Long Beach. We had oil refineries all around us with no housing or businesses. The street was split by a concrete center divider. On each side was 2 lanes and a big flat shoulder to make almost 3 full lanes. We drove 1/4 mile into the street and maked off another 1/4 mile (which meant we were 1/2 mile into the street at the finishing point). The finish line was a crosswalk and was very straightforward. This allowed the racers to fly by for the first race, use the extra half mile of "slow down" road to turn around and start another race back the other way. We had people at each end of the track with video although it appears much of the one side's video is dark. My video came out a little better and all of it has sound. : First race (Standing 1/4 mile): : The first race was very quick. Most of us at the end didn't even realize it was coming, though I did start the camera. Jack had a HELL of a launch (especially for street tires) and was probably on his way to a victory but he missed second gear and Steve cruised to a victory. Here is F8IZHIS's video of the launch: : F8's Launch Video : And here is my video of the finish. Based on how it looks, we still didn't realize that was a race...that's because it was over after 2nd gear and they let off: : 1st race finish : Second race (~25mph Rolling Start 1/4 Mile): : Turning around, the guys used the crosswalk as the point to launch after cruising up to it at around ~25mph. Because I didn't realize these guys were actually racing, I do not have video of that race. I'm pretty sure F8IZHIS does have the finish though. In this race, the cars were very close until Steve missed 4th gear and Jack went on for the win. : Third Race (Standing 1/4 Mile): : Thankfully, I have video of this one. In this race, Steve's drag radials and good launch gave him a quick lead. If you look closely, you can see a quick blue flame from Steve's right exhaust port about mid track. It's no Wolf-special, but there nonetheless. This race went to Steve who won by a few cars. I could not tell from my vantage point at all, but on such similar cars and a lead like that in the 60', I wouldn't be surprised. The video shows it though. : Here's mine of the launch: : 3rd Race Launch : And here's F8's of the finish: : 3rd Race Finish : Final Race (~25mph Rolling Start 1/4 Mile): : As you can see in the video, Jack was slightly ahead of Steve as they passed me and that continued up until Jack's tranny grinded away (it's quite audible in the video) near the end and he had to brake. Damnit! That would have been a hell of a race. Here's my clip: : Final Race : In the middle of the racing, a security gaurd came over and asked us to move some cars...but he said nothing else. Well, some of the guys realized we should probably get the hell out of there so everyone jumped in the cars and bolted. Me and solrac jumped in the pimped out RAV4 with Pokemon stickers (I'm NOT kidding) and speeded down to pick up infinite loop, F8IZHIS and Playboy. As we headed down the road we saw Jack stop, infinite loop hurl himself in and they bolted like bats out of hell. As we watched this Dukes of Hazard-esque display, in awe, we almost missed Playboy and F8IZHIS. It was the funniest thing seeing those chasing after the car like dogs as we sped by lol! We headed back to the meeting spot at Spongeriders work and started talking about what went down. : When we got back, we noticed that Steve did not return. As the rest of us talked about the races and whatnot, F8IZHIS gets a phone call. All I hear is "pulled over" and "hope he doesn't get arrested". Everyone quited down to find out that Steve and Mark (Silver 21+PSI, Sport 500 packing TT driven by a local guy) decided to make a quick run. These two were to be the "backup" race if Jack didn't show...but they went for it anyways. Well, Steve got caught! LOL. Instantly, we got the idea to grab the cameras and cruise by to film him and Spongerider (who was a passenger) getting pulled over! We were giddy like schoolchildren with the idea of posting the bust on the forum hehe. Much to our dismay (but Steve's incredible luck!), the damn cop let him go! As we were heading out, we saw them on their way back. : Come to find out, the cop told Steve something along the lines of "Your answer determines whether or not I take you to jail". "Were you and the other car racing?". Steve's answer wasn't 100% admitting guilt to a race but he got close enough by saying "Um, yeah...we decided to get in it a little bit". Well, it worked and the damn cop even shook his hand and let him go (after a quick lecture about he could have gone to jail, etc). The lucky bastard!!! Later in the night, as a group of us heads to Denny's to "discuss things", Steve calls us to inform us that he can't make it because he got pulled over AGAIN by the SAME cop lol! This time the cop told him to get the hell out of town or risk arrest...being given two golden prizes in one night, he was smart and bailed. Sheesh, how come none of us are that lucky!? : Back to Steve's return from the 1st pull-over...Steve and Jack shake hands, congratulate each other and everyone talks about the races, the fu@k-ups, the cops, etc. I must say, their cars appeared VERY equal all night long. Steve admitted to me that Jack was probably going to be a little faster and indeed it sure kept up well for having street
